A “sister” version is available for grades 4-5-6 here.

Engaging Discussions on Responsibility

This is one of the first lesson I published year ago and I find it still relevant! Designed by a veteran educator, the lesson will guide your students through three distinct steps to deepen their understanding of responsibility and the importance of making ethical choices. The first step is to define the idea of responsibility, as younger students may not fully grasp the idea of being “morally responsible” means. The lesson prompts students to give examples of failure and success at being responsible and amplifies that making the right choices can be difficult, or not the most popular choice.

Easy lesson plan on moral character was offered for free in the past to our subscribers. You missed out on this one!.

Exploring Moral Dilemmas

Moving on to the second stage, students will engage in an exciting activity centered around a moral dilemma. They will be presented with a hypothetical scenario featuring a boy named Johnny who is tempted to eat a cookie before dinner when his mother isn't looking. Through group discussions, students will analyze the situation and determine the most responsible course of action for Johnny. This activity encourages critical thinking and helps students apply their understanding of responsibility to real-life scenarios.

Responsibility Art Project

In this second step your students will participate in break out group. Each group will draw a poster that demonstrate positive behaviour. Once the poster is completed, each group will present their posters and ideas drawn from their discussions to the class.

Reflections on Character Development

The final step, students will reflect and write their thoughts on moral character in their journal. The teacher can help some students by giving writing prompts on this topic.

Worksheets for Reinforcement

To further enhance the learning experience, we have included two worksheets with this lesson plan. Worksheet 1 features a series of pictures where students identify the more responsible action, while Worksheet 2 encourages students to describe and illustrate instances where they have helped someone. An answer key is provided for these worksheets, making it easy for educators to assess their students' progress.
